Hypersphere

Tuba and Euphonium Ensemble
Program Notes
Hypersphere is a piece for tuba and euphonium octet with percussion. The piece was inspired by the idea that our universe could be infinite or finite. It consists of slow- moving harmonies and melodies along with a quirky middle section. The concept I portray is an ever-growing sound that is continuous that slowly becomes agitated as the universe does. Once the peak of the piece is reached, that is when there is critical mass, the idea of a vast universe that is never-ending. The piece then returns to beginning material where it is peaceful again, symbolizing the cyclical characteristic of the universe as it restarts the process all over again.
