About

Carlos Juanillo-Castillo is a bachelor in music composition at Ball State University pursuing his master’s in fall 2025. He has performed euphonium in chamber and large ensembles, along with piano, and has taken conducting lessons on the side. His style consists of combining his Mexican heritage by utilizing Mexican rhythms and Western music. He gains his inspiration from natural everyday sounds and from Mexican and Western composers. He is inspired and/or influenced by contemporary concert band composers and composers such as Carlos Chavez, Silvestre Revueltas, Stravinsky, Bartok, Shostakovich, and Bach. His music is a blend of all these different components to create a Western-Mexican fusion in his harmonic language, melodic development, and formal structure.
